Much of the research conducted by health organizations in this and other countries typically do not have a vegetarian diet as the focus. However, most of the studies that include a nutrition assessment contain references to the benefits of eating more vegetables and fruits, and this information is quite helpful in educating more and more of the public about the many positive effects on health these foods can have.
Our goal at Hallelujah Acres®, and our research arm, the Hallelujah Acres® Foundation, is to take scientific study about vegetarianism, especially a primarily raw vegan diet, to a new level.
You will find the studies we have conducted to date, and their results, in this section. As more funding is made available for the Foundation, we intend to conduct more studies about dietary interventions and their benefits on health.
Hallelujah Vegetarians and Nutrition Science: Answering Your Questions (Click on the link above to print a PDF file in double sided booklet format.)
There are many people who have questions about the adequacy of the Hallelujah Diet, plant-only diets, or plant-based diets. The objective here is to take an honest look at the data and literature, to give a more complete (hopefully bal-anced) picture of issues raised, to clear up misinformation, and to issue cautions against misapplication of the teachings of Hallelujah Acres.
Water - The Choice for Long-Term Health - Revised 3/21/2007
The debate on what kind of water is the best choice for long-term consumption has raged on and on. What is the truth? Does anyone really know what kind of water is best for you? Has anyone looked at this problem scientifically and done controlled studies with animals and people to see what really works in reality, not just in theory?
ADHD – Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
In this extremely informative article, Dr. Michael Donaldson discusses some of the most overlooked reasons why more and more children are being diagnosed with ADHD today. The reasons, and what you can do to help your children, may surprise you. You can read the article by clicking here.
The Effects of Carrot Juice on Blood Glucose Levels
Carrot juice is an integral and potent part of The Hallelujah Diet®. With its natural sugar content, questions abound as to the effects of it on blood glucose levels. Likewise, there are questions about whether sugar-sensitive people should refrain from consuming carrot juice, or if they can consume it safely and receive all of its health benefits.
Dr. Michael Donaldson of the Hallelujah Acres® Foundation conducted a study to answer these questions about carrot juice, as well as to determine ways to safely lower the blood sugar response to it. The results are quite surprising and eye-opening.
The Effects of a Primarily Raw Vegetarian Diet on Fibromyalgia
Fibromyalgia is a disease that engulfs sufferers in an increasingly downward cycle of non-restorative sleep, chronic pain, fatigue, inactivity, and depression. In this study, published in 2001 in BMC Complementary and Alternative Medicine, Dr. Michael Donaldson and two other researchers tested whether a mostly raw vegetarian diet would significantly improve fibromyalgia - "Write up - Coming Soon" - symptoms.
The results are quite powerful and encouraging to those seeking relief from this illness. You can read the full text of this study as published in BMC Complementary and Alternative Medicine, or the brochure version here.
Food and Nutrient Intake of Hallelujah Vegetarians
In the November 2001 issue of Nutrition & Food Science, Dr. Michael Donaldson published a detailed survey of the food and nutrient intake of 141 Hallelujah vegetarians who followed The Hallelujah Diet® for almost 1000 consecutive days.
According to Dr. Donaldson, "This survey allows doctors and health practitioners to see what The Hallelujah Diet® is in practice. It also lays a scientific foundation for understanding why The Hallelujah Diet® gets the results that it does."
You can read the full version of the survey as published in Nutrition & Food Science.
Juice Extractor Comparison
Many people who want to make fresh juices a part of their living foods diet ask, "What is the best juicer?"
From a nutritional perspective, a good measure of a juicer’s quality is the amount of active enzymes in the juice after the juicing process. Enzymes indicate how much "life" is in the juice, so enzyme preservation during the juicing process is an important consideration. So which juicer extracts the most enzymes?
Michael Donaldson, Ph.D., conducted a study of enzymatic activity in carrot juice produced by eight different brands of popular juicers. This ten-page report compares the enzyme preservation aspect of twin-gear, triturating, hydraulic press, masticating, and centrifugal juicers, as well as their ease of use, juice storage methods, organic/non-organic considerations, and volume of juice produced. Lastly, the report details the role of enzymes in human health.
Nutrition and Cancer: A Review of the Evidence for an Anti-Cancer Diet
Millions of people are at a high risk for developing cancer without knowing it. Are you one of them? Do you know what factors contribute to being at high risk, and what you can do to reduce that risk – without the use of pharmaceuticals or invasive therapies?
According to Michael Donaldson, Ph.D. of the Hallelujah Acres® Foundation, certain dietary factors contribute to an increased risk of cancer. Likewise, there are protective dietary factors that reduce cancer risk.
You can read about what these factors are, and find out if your diet supports cancer growth or prevention, in the full version of his review of nutrition and its role in cancer, as published in the October 20, 2004 issue of Nutrition Journal, or in the summary version
Vitamin B12 and The Hallelujah Diet® Many adults, and even children, unknowingly suffer from a deficiency in Vitamin B12. This deficiency can be more pronounced in vegetarians and vegans, as B12 is not available in any appreciable amounts in plant sources, and one must consume B12 in order for the body to produce it.
In this summary about Vitamin B12 and The Hallelujah Diet ®, Dr. Michael Donaldson details why you need B12, what can happen if you don’t get enough of it, and how you can get adequate levels of it. You can also read the full study as published in Annals of Nutrition & Metabolism.
